Abberley Lane derives its character from classical proportions and precise detailing. Designed by architect John Tee, the exterior of this house features ornamental ironwork, plantation shutters, French doors, fanlight transoms, copper accents and a formal entrance marked by a pediment and columns. Inside, there's an iron balcony, similar to the exterior porch railing, overlooking the family room.
Along with front, rear and wraparound porches, screened porches offer great spaces to relax and enjoy the weather while being sheltered from the elements. Add an outdoor fireplace to any of these spaces and a three season room is instantly achieved. I've gotten some general information, but now would like some specific help/suggestions with our July 2011 itinerary. 16 nights, 4 people in our family (2 adults/2 teenagers), and prefer train/bus travel, but would be open to renting a car, if/when necessary.

You could spend months doing such a trip and not run out of excellent places to visit. On Day 1 I would stop in Wuerzburg for a tour of the Residence before stopping in Rothenburg for the night. This will allow you to take the night watchman's tour if desired, and you will be able to look about in the evening and morning before the day-tripping tourist hordes descend on the town.

Using this route you will see many excellent places, many of them without the tourist hordes of places along the Romantic Road, and for me would be much more enjoyable than some of the other places you wanted to visit.
Design elements such as columned porches, wrap around verandas, formal staircases, richly detailed crown molded ceilings and dormer rooflines are all part of the traditional southern design. Most of our plans have open, airy and casual layouts that complement the relaxed living that is desired in such Southern styled homes. Informal great rooms that are interconnected with bright spacious kitchens and view oriented dining spaces are also common features in our southern-style house plans.
To enjoy Munich more than just superficially requires 3 days or so. After arriving in FRA drive straight to Fuessen and skip the 2 nights in Stuttgart and instead spend those 2 nights in Ortisei arund the Dolomites. One the last day in Berchtesgaden we plan on driving the Grossglockner pass and then going to St. Wolfgang and overnight in St. Wolfgang. Drive from Stuttgart to Fussen for 1 night stay to visit Neuschwanstein Castle. A large covered patio spans the entire back of the house and has an outdoor kitchen.

All of these places are excellent to visit, and you will see few tourists and almost no foreign ones making for a "real" German experience. Most of the other places you plan to visit will be overrun by foreign tourist hordes and you will hear more English and Japanese spoken than German, there will possibly be long lines, and probably more of a Disneyland feeling. I'd be tempted to spend 6-7 nights in ONE place to visit Salzburg, the Salzkammergut, and Berchtesgaden areas. A car would be best here to avoid making train/bus connections. Not sure about options in the countryside as we like to stay in Salzburg and make day trips since we rely on public transport. They are also designed for typical conditions and requirements in the Southeastern United States. Our plans alone may not be all that is required to get a building permit in your area.
